Creating calm in transit.

Airports are complex sensory ecosystems. With intentional design, sound can do more than entertain — it can ease overstimulation, reduce travel anxiety, and foster a sense of calm and connection throughout the passenger journey.

Through research-backed sound interventions, Sound Wellness for Airports helps transform terminals, lounges, and digital spaces into restorative environments that support both passenger well-being and operational flow.

Meet Bianca Lee - Creator of Sound Wellness for Airports

Bianca Lee is a sound artist and sound wellness consultant specializing in the functional use of sound to ease anxiety, overstimulation, and travel-related stress.

Drawing from her background in sound therapy, trauma-informed facilitation, and research on passenger well-being, she designs immersive sound experiences for airports, airlines, and workplace environments — helping travellers self-regulate and reconnect amidst the intensity of modern travel.

Her work has been featured at Toronto Pearson International Airport, The Royal Ontario Museum, and in collaboration with brands like Disney, Marvel Studios, and Porsche.

A Collaboration with YYZ Live

  • Calming Sound Bath Activation

In partnership with Toronto Pearson’s YYZ Live program, Bianca introduced a live calming activation at Terminal 3 — offering travellers a brief pause before departure.

The set featured live cello and singing bowls tuned to root note G for grounding and calm, creating a restorative soundscape amidst the airport bustle.

  • Digital Wellness Signage

To extend the experience beyond the performance, QR-based signage directed travellers to Exhale — a 30-minute sound bath and curated travel playlist for continued calm in transit.

Research on Sound, Air Travel, and Passenger Well-Being

Ongoing research through Sound & Flight, our independent sound wellness study, explores how anxious travellers experience air travel and what sensory tools help them self-regulate.

Drawing from both self-reported data and existing studies on sound and the nervous system, the findings highlight an opportunity to integrate sound-based interventions — such as therapeutic soundscapes and ambient compositions — to reduce overstimulation and promote calm in travel environments.

This work bridges neuroscience, design psychology, and artistic innovation to inform sound strategies that support emotional regulation and passenger well-being.
